Leah Regan: A Day in the Life

Book open Reading time: 2 mins

Leah is currently working as a Solicitor Apprentice in Real Estate Finance at Fieldfisher's Manchester office.

9:00am

I arrive in the office, make a cup of coffee, review my personal emails, and flag anything that needs auctioning.

9:15am

I will get started on my workload for the day. As I deal with redemptions within the Real Estate sector, I will check the inbox collaboratively with my colleague and flag any correspondence on matters I am working on, or new matters that may come in.

10:00am

Alongside issuing redemption statements and liaising with clients, I will keep amending my spreadsheet in which I keep track of different matters that have redeemed so that I can draft the release documentation and send to the borrower's solicitors.

11:00am

We have a departmental catch up call, on teams, where the team will update each other on completions and applications, which I think is helpful as we can all judge each other's capacity so if anyone needs help with their matters we can offer a hand! We also get updates on any upcoming events we might be interested in which can vary from networking events or just for some social drinks within the team!

1:30pm

Usually, as the day proceeds, borrowers begin to redeem their loans so I will draft the payment requisition forms and receipts to send to the Manchester partners to approve. This usually includes calculations where we will deduct our legal fee

4.00pm

I have a meeting with the borrower's solicitor to draft an undertaking for redemption release documents. This can be quite time consuming, in some instances, as usually it is back and forth until we are both happy with the final document and we have approval. I will then continue to get it signed by the Director and update our spreadsheet so we have a note of the deadline to produce the release documentation.

4:45pm

At the end of the day, I like to ensure all the emails in both my personal and shared inbox have been actioned, or if it's something that follows on to the next day I will make a note so I can prioritise it the following day.

5:00pm

I will make sure my work phone is charged so I can respond to urgent emails on my commute home and leave the office!
