Meet Alexandra | Dispute Resolution department

Book open Reading time: 2 mins

Name: Alexandra Basford

Office: London

About: 1st year trainee sat in the Dispute Resolution department

I joined Fieldfisher in August and have the pleasure of working at the London office. Being a stone's throw away from London Bridge and Tower Bridge makes for some exceptional views. I am a first seat trainee in the Dispute Resolution team. Despite being in London, I have worked cross-functionally with our other offices, such as Manchester. I am trusted with high quality work, ranging from drafting letters, emails and court documents, to research for niche points of law and providing my opinion on how best to move a case forwards. Everyone I work with is immensely appreciative of the work I put out; hard work and a good attitude is valued.

The department is very social, in my second week we all went to Brighton for a day by the seaside together. There are also breakfasts and lunches, to catch up with colleagues, and I have also recently been to the Waitrose Cookery School with clients and learnt how to make pasta from scratch. The team also host a variety of networking events, including wine tasting with different law firms, and an event at Flight Club with clients.

Outside of my department, I am involved with a few of our pro-bono initiatives, including the International Paralympic Committee, the National Deaf Children Society, and I am on the admin team for Fieldfisher Reading Partners. I recently also concluded a case at the Queen Mary Legal Advice Clinic, where I supervised a student with an employment dispute case.
